Watershed Management
In order to contain further deterioration of natural resources of an area and
to optimise the development, the planning is based on watershed approach where
basic unit of development area is a watershed i.e. an area having hydraulic boundry.
It involves exploration and development of complex inter-relationship between
watershed resources and its living population.
Integrated watershed management
programmes basically involve improvement of productivity of agriculture
under rainfed farming. These programmes intend to generate successful models
for development of the areas having less than one third lands under assured
irrigation. The catchment area treatment works for anti-erosion and
sediment control by planting grasses, shrubs, plantations, flood management,
water conservation, contour bunding, check dams, gulley plugging, afforestation
programmes, eco-friendly measures for retention and growth of bio-diversity,
are some of the important programmes which are planned for soil moisture
retention and support of watershed management.
Consultancy services provided by WAPCOS
cater to the integrated watershed management and soil & water conservation
involving interdisciplinary approach. Its core staff has well qualified
and experienced agricultural engineers, soil scientists, agronomists, agro
socio-economic and agro-forestry experts. These experts undertake specific
assignments for conducting the studies to the clients satisfaction,
deploying innovative and appropriate technology.
