Power Engineering
Power generation facilities comprise basically conventional sources of energy viz; hydro & thermal power. Hydro power generation is one of the key areas of consultancy services of WAPCOS Storage schemes, run-of the river plants, major and minor hydro plants and thermal stations have been rendered by WAPCOS in complex and varied geological, topographic, climatic and hydrological conditions in association with its supporting organisation Central Electricity Authority. Engineering consultancy for several projects including detailed designs of underground power station comprising intricate underground works including tunnelling works have been provided by the Company. Hydro projects including pumped storage schemes of varying capacities with different parameters have been planned and designed after detailed investigations, prepared detailed project reports, managed EPC contracts for private developers, IPP contracts and carried out detailed engineering and construction supervision.

Keeping environmental concerns in view, WAPCOS has also diversified in the use of non conventional sources of energy.
WAPCOS is fully equipped to carry out the consultancy assignments in the transmission and distribution of power from concept to commissioning, in technical development, innovation and project management, covering the range from underground distribution system in urban areas, rural electrification to 400 kV transmission lines, Air Insulated Substation (AIS) to Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) in difficult environmental areas and with modern computerised controls with SCADA facilities.

Another emerging area in which WAPCOS provides consultancy is restructuring, privatisation and regulation of Electricity Supply Industry, so as to achieve competition in its pricing, efficiency in generation, transmission & distribution of power and other related matters.
