CENTRAL WATER COMMISSION (CWC)
Central Water Commission is an apex engineering organisation of the Government of India in the field of water resources development. This organisation is primarily responsible for giving technical clearance to all major and medium projects in the water resources sector in the country and ensure the implementation of Government policy in the sphere of water resources development.

CENTRAL ELECTRICITY AUTHORITY (CEA)

SURVEY OF INDIA (SOI)
The Survey of India established over 225 years ago, is one of the premier survey organisations of the world. SOI undertakes all types of surveys and preparation of precision maps with the most sophisticated equipment, knowhow and experience gathered over the years.

GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA (GSI)
The Geological Survey of lndia, established in 1851, is a specialised organisation for conducting applied research,‘ investigations, geological exploration and geological mapping for the whole of India. GSl has also developed expertise in engineering geology and geophysics.

CENTRAL PUBLIC HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING ORGANISATION (CPHEEO)
CPHEEO is vested with the responsibility of national level planning, programming and advising various State Governments and Central Agencies/Organisations for technical clearance, monitoring and evaluation of plan programmes in the fields of water supply and sewerage. It is also responsible for formulation of various Acts connected with public health services in the country and for bringing out guidelines on urban & rural water supply and sewage treatment and related infrastructure development.

INDIA METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT (IMD)
Established over 200 years back, India Meteorological Department is the principal Government agency entrusted with the task of providing meteorological statistics required for planning of projects and forecast meteorological information for optimum operation of weather sensitive activities.

CENTRAL GROUND WATER BOARD (CGWB)
The Central Ground Water Board is the nation‘s apex body for planning, surveys, exploration, technology development and management of the ground water resources in the country for irrigation and other needs.

INDIAN COUNCIL OF AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH (ICAR)
ICAR, established in 1920, is the national body which coordinates research, education and training in the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries. ICAR is directly involved in research through its 31 institutes which undertake research in fundamental and applied agriculture. To deal with problems relating to the states, regions, or specific locations, it operates through 21 agricultural universities as well as public, quasi-public and private institutions.

CENTRAL ROAD RESEARCH INSTITUTE (CRRI)
CRRI is a premier Indian research organisation established in 1952 for highway, traffic and transport planning including research and development in the areas of soil stabilisation and rural roads, geotechnical engineering, flexible and rigid pavements, pavement evaluation and performance, bridge engineering, instrumentation, traffic, transportation, environment and road safety.

NATIONAL REMOTE SENSING AGENCY (NRSA)
NRSA is a department of space sponsored organisation devoted to the acquisition, processing and dissemination of remote sensing data NRSA’s data is used by a number of agencies of the Govt. of lndia in the areas of ground water prospecting, flood mapping and damage assessment, soil mapping, watershed management, crop estimation, ocean studies, hydrographic mapping, resource mapping etc.

CENTRAL SOILS AND MATERIALS RESEARCH STATION (CSMRS)
The Central. Soils and Materials Research Station carries out detailed geo-technical explorations, construction material surveys, pre-irrigation soil studies, including in-site and laboratory testing. It has all the requisite scientific/engineering staff as well as sophisticated field/laboratory equipment.

CENTRAL WATER AND POWER RESEARCH STATIONS (CWPRS)
CWPRS, founded in 1916, is one of the foremost organisations in the world in the field of hydraulics and allied research. It is recognised as a regional laboratory of ESCAP region. CWPRS provides specialised services through physical and mathematical model studies in river and canal hydraulics, coastal engineering, environmental studies, instrumentation, etc. It offers training facilities for individual and group trainees in the relevant disciplines.

ENGINEERING/AGRICULTURAL ORGANISATIONS/DEPARTMENT OF THE STATE GOVERNMENT
State Engineering Organisations have long experience in planning, design and construction of river valley projects covering hydraulic structures like dams, barrages, regulators and navigations locks; water conveyance systems like canals, tunnels and penstock; water supply and sewerage system including treatment facilities and power facilities like power houses, transmission lines and switchyards.

NATIONAL RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS IN ASSOCIATED FIELDS
The 32 national research establishments comprising national laboratories, institutes, organisations with 80 field stations spread all over the country are engaged in research activities of technological advancement including environmental engineering, geophysics and oceanography. Beside these, there are research institutes set up by State Irrigation Departments which are actively engaged in research pertaining to river behaviour, hydraulics of control structures and allied problems.
